I adore these pens. I bought the nonretractable kind first, and then when the mood struck me to stock up (I do a lot of writing, so I can never have too many pens), I bought this threepack. The only criticism I have is that the pen design indicates the ink color too subtly -- I am forever picking up one thinking it is the black one and then seeing red or blue ink. They don't have to make the whole pen red or blue, but they could make the color band a little more vivid. But although these pens have only been in my possession for eight days, I have not had the breakage problem cited in an earlier review. I have been writing on a lot of cotton stationery, and the ink shows well on thicker, darker sheets without running or smearing. It is, quite simply, the perfect pen. And the rubber grip is a fantastic improvement on the too-skinny barrel of the nonretractable variety.
Writes well, ugly designOctober 30, 2009 Poiuyt Man(Wichita, Kansas, United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It writes just like the original Sharpie Pen, but it's retractable... and it looks ridiculous. The fat, blunt-tipped barrel is more comfortable for long writing sessions, but feels bulky in the pocket. The plunger is comically long and coated with a generic chrome finish, drawing attention to it and making the pen look cheap. The plunger also seems to get in the way when I clip the pen to my jeans.
I just expected something closer to the minimalistic look and feel of the original.
Writes well, when the tip is in good conditionSeptember 30, 2009 Cal Williams(Georgia, U.S.A.) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The pen itself looks and writes well, but it has a fatal flaw, in my experience. The Sharpie Pen Retractable tip is not half as durable as the Sharpie Pen, and even if you bear down a little too hard, the tip may be damaged. After the tip gets "compressed" it does not write like it used to and turns into a unbearable pain. This could be a factory defect, but three of the four I have, have proven this dilemma. I was excited to try these out, but the steep price is not quite worth the week of use it contains. I hope I am the only one with this problem, and if you still buy the pen after reading this, make sure not to bear down hard. It can cause problems, trust me, sigh.
Like hte original pens..but betterSeptember 9, 2009 M. Miller(Appleton, WI) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am a huge Sharpie addict. When the pens came out, I knew it was just a matter of time before they made them retractable.
The retractable has a few updates from the original Sharpie pen. As of yet, none of the outer coloring has flaked off of mine, which was an annoyance about the originals. Also, a rubberized grip gives a comfortable hold and they upgraded the clip from plastic to metal.
I can't wait for them to release more colors!
