Great Trackball MouseSeptember 1, 2010 ssofssmd I've used the LogiTech Trackman Mouse ever since they were first made. My last one stopped working so I was frantic to find another one. They're like almost extinct. I think Amazon.com was the only place I could find one. It's a fantastic mouse!
I am left-handed and have had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders. Need I say more about using the conventional mouse? The first one made saved the stress on my shoulders and I cannot and will not use anything else except, for the past month or so, I've been trying the Kensington Orbit Trackman mouse; which I believe to be relatively new. However, I purchased a new Logitech Trackball mouse and it is on standby.
Why didn't I get one sooner?August 23, 2010 C. Lindhartsen(Eastern Washington, USA) I've been and on-and-off trackball user over the years, originally forced into using one on a computer when I was younger, and using one at a previous job when there was one of these left from a previous employee and no other mice were available.
While the above does not sound positive, I've actually found myself to appreciate trackballs quite a bit because they don't require your hand to move around a desk, and don't require a specific surface to work on. The ball moves about easily and you can adjust the speed in the software if you find the default, which I did, rather slow. I just find it a lot more precise to use one of these, where you can just glide the ball around vs, your hand around to get something done. The one fault of the device would be that there is a scrolling option available in the Logitech software, but it doesn't work in absolutely every piece of software like a traditional scroll wheel would, but it does work in most programs.
Would I suggest this to others? Because the price is rather cheap, I'd definitely suggest this to people who used trackballs in the past, but I'd definitely suggest it to anyone who finds discomfort in their hands moving a mouse around, or for someone who requires more precise motion, such as in graphic design work. It does work well, but it can be foreign to those who have only used trackpads or traditional mice in the past.
No effective scrolling kills this for me.August 20, 2010 A. Saunders(Virginia, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted a track ball that was large and I could use my fingers with (not just thumb, like the trackman wheel), but I *really* wanted a scroll wheel or ring.
This one had software that enabled you to scroll with the ball, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
First and foremost, the scrolling feature is a joke.
Really, it is.
The setup is that it's called 'Universal Scrolling'.
The punchline is that it's the only scrolling device I have that is NOT universal.
It doesn't work in chrome and some other applications. It works *poorly* in firefox and the other applications. Specifically, it scrolls SLOWLY (presumably sending too many tiny scroll requests too fast) and unevenly. Speeding up the trackball won't help either. Deal killer right there.
Besides that, you have only four buttons. The big ones are presumably going to stay left and right mouse clicks, the left one (by your thumb) is a good position for the back button. That leaves the fourth awkward little button for the scroll lock. I almost developed carpal tunnel syndrome just trying to hit that a few times.
So this thing is ambidextrous. That's good if you're left handed (since it's closest you'll probably get to a left handed trackball), but bad in general because it's not ergonomic. It's symmetrical, in just the way my hand IS NOT.
Upsides? The ball is pretty, I want to eat it.
Graphic MarvelAugust 5, 2010 comuse1989 I have been involved with photo restoration and touch-up which require a good cursor control. I find the comfort, accuracy, ease of use and cleaning all outstanding features of the Trackman Marble mouse. The lack of a scroll wheel is not an issue with me as the buttons are easily clicked and held while rolling the large marble. The two small extra buttons located above the primary ones are programmable with the use of included driver software but have default settings of the forward and back browser buttons which is the use I put them to. The ball can be lifted out and any lint easily wipes out of the cradle. An excellent choice for most any computer user.
Logitech Trackman Marble MouseAugust 2, 2010 mmunroe(east coast N.A.) I have bought about six of this particular model over the past few years. They last about six months under heavy daily use. I work at my computer and do email and simple illustrations for about eight hours each day. Eventually the "marble" gets tiny nearly imperceptable indentations that make it hard to position smoothly. If only I could just by new marbles or recondition the existing spheres. For the price I think it is an excellent product and I keep replacing it because I like it.
