Track your Home and Business expensesMay 9, 2009 Robert Terrell(Litchfield, Illinois) I have been using the MS Money products ever since Windows 98. I've found it much easier to use than the usual accounting programs. In the past I have tried such programs as Peachtree and Quick Books, but found them far too difficult use and understand. It's also very hard to make them work the way I want them to. I have worked the past 15 years in accounting, so you would think I could make these programs work for me, but that hasn't been the case. On the other hand, Money is flexible and versatile enough that you can customize it to your wokr habits. The only part of it that is 'Business' oriented is the Inventory section. Since I just started selling on Amazon and Ebay, I felt a need to track my inventory. Unfortunately, though, the Inventory section is just a place for you make a List of your inventory. It does not tie into any of your transactions, so you have to MANUALLY enter and remove the individual items as you buy or sell things. This is not very convenient for me. Now, I don't bother to track items, just show them as Inventory Purchases, and log the gross sales. This is working well for me. You can set up as many accounts as you need, and you can enter new categories as needed. I highly recommend this program for anyone who needs to track their home expenses and also for anyone who does NOT need to track their sales to inventory. The inventory section would work very well for keeping up with your household assets, however.
Waste of MONEY!!! Can I have it BACK??January 29, 2007 Foxiblac(Orlando, FL USA) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I brought this because I have a small business and I wanted something I could use but also affordable. No one told me that this software doesnt' work with Windows XP. So I called Microsoft Tech team for assistance, they told me that don't have any technical information that could solve my problem for Microsoft Money 2004. They had helpful tools, hints, solving problem issues, for 2003, 2005 & 2006 but not 2004 so they were useless. The problems is that software didnt' give me the option to input my user name just password so every time I tried to log in it would tell me invalid username & password. Instead of giving me a box to enter my username it only gave me a file destination location. TRUST me, this software doesn't work with XP.
needs a little helpJune 30, 2004 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I've been using MS Money for my personal accounts for years. I like it, and now after starting my own business, I especially like the price of Money Small Business compared to alternatives.
The user from Western North Carolina (mmj...) pointed out correctly that the except for printing, the Invoices are not very professionally looking. He's absolutely correct unless you have the FREE PrimoPDF (from download.com) utility installed.
This extremly handy utility (did I mention it is free!) allows you to save your invoice as a PDF file, that looks just the way you layed it out!
Just select PrimoPDF as your printer, select the name and location of your desired output file, screen or file quality option and you're ready to rock and roll!
This just made my day!!!
MS Money 2002 is still betterOctober 7, 2003 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I will not upgrade from 2002 version, even though invoices are not very customisabe. The only problem 2002 had was you could not save your invoice design for use, if you need to reinstal. And it does not seem that it is fixed in this version. So I will not purchase this product this year. I may even switch to Quicken.
Surprisingly Limited Customization OptionsOctober 2, 2003 G. C. Rich(Wayzata, Minnesota USA) 38 out of 38 found this review helpful
This was a new install rather than an upgrade, so I came in without preconceived notions. First impression, fairly intuitive and nicely integrated with banking and basic inventory systems. The HUGE drawback is that it is amazingly rigid! You cannot, for example, change the billing terms on an invoice! Hope your terms are the same as one of the 5 options Microsoft gives you, otherwise you're out of luck. More examples: invoices do not reflect partial payments; you cannot change shipping methods beyond the options they give you (Has Microsoft ever heard of customer pickup?); and you are very limited in your decisions about what information can and cannot be included on correspondence. Setting up inventory system is also tedious as you can't duplicate and edit similar items. Lastly, as the previous reviewer mentioned, tech support is worthless. It's an overseas support line and while the operators are polite and speak English well, all they do is enter search criteria into the help dialog and try to find the answer for you! Literally no more helpful than if you were to do it yourself. Bottom line - probably would have been a great package if it was released in 1998, but of course, 5 years of progress is tough ignore.
